Soxtherm
Automated Soxhlet Extraction System
Theory
How the Soxtherm extracts in less time
using less solvent...
Stage 1
The sample is immersed in boiling solvent and the required material
is extracted from the sample. An equilibrium is set up between the
extract in solution and that still on the sample surface.
Stage 2
The level of the solvent is lowered to below the extraction thimble.
The excess solvent is collected in the rear solvent recovery tank.
Stage 3
The material is extracted by the refluxing of condensed solvent
and collected in the solvent below the extraction thimble.
Stage 4
The bulk of the solvent is distilled over into the rear storage
tank for later recovery.
Stage 5
Heat is shut off and the six extraction beakers are raised off the
heating unit automatically. Cooling water is switched off at the
end of the programmed cooling time.
